Qualifying Photography as Art, or, Is Photography All It Can Be?
CHRISTOPHER BEDFORD
Photography
as a medium is one that is still argued over today. A concern that is
brought up in this essay is whether to consider photography as art or just as a
tool for personal enjoyment. The only way photography can be considered,
as art is if there is, "a
rich and thorough understanding of the myriad decisions that precede the
production of a photographic image, ranging from the conceptual and obtuse to
the mundane and pragmatic". If
there is creative thought to the photograph then it can still have the same
meaning as a painting. On the same topic
though, there is no universal way to analyze photography on creative
thinking. So how can we consider it art
then?
