Adobe Bridge is an application which allows anyone to browse images to import them into other Adobe applications. Bridge can be very complex due to the vast amount of users.
Lightroom is more specific, gauged towards photography. It is an application that simplifies photographic workflow while still enabling the highest quality, non destructive image processor.
What would be the advantages or disadvantages to both programs?
Adobe Bridge advantages/disadvantages:
- useful for transporting images to other applications for photographers, web, print and dynamic media designers, videographers, animators, scientists, fine artists and many other industries
- moves images quickly throughout an individuals workflow
- not specific to just photography making there be a lot of added extras
- incapable of displaying "off-line" files
Lightroom advantages/disadvantages:
- is targeted for photography
- does not compromise power, flexibility or power
- targets time critical tasks making them efficient
- can work with "off-line" files
- database driven
- can access info about (metadata)
- searching images based on metadata = faster
- supports multiple databases (catalogs) and can be located easily on a removable drive
- allows it to keep track of info such as virtual copies, collection of images, history and snapshots, slide shows, print and web templates
- able to quickly preview, sort, rate, embed copyright, make corrections
- less time sorting and organizing images and more time shooting and perfecting them
- greatest strength is narrowing down a shoot, adding essential metadata and creating the perfect negative in a non destructive manner
