Cotton Chapter 3 Deadpan
In Cotton's Chapter "Deadpan", she states that now more than ever photos have been created to be displayed in galleries. The majority of the chapter talks about deadpan which, as she describes, is a type of art that lacks in visual drama. Instead of the photographer's view being projected, the subjects view is more important when projected. She goes into a little history on how the deadpan developed. It came about in the 1990s with with more landscapes and architectural subjects. Andreas Gurskey was at the forefront of contemporary deadpan photography. He would produce large scale prints with very high quality. "Deadpan photography has a great capacity for capturing the wonder of the man made world in an elegiac manner" (93). The ability to se things large scale gives off a sort of wonder and awe.
