Gabi Mo.: Final Project Proposal

I have recently become very intrigued with the human body. I think what I have in mind at this point is looking at images of painting of the human nude (and somehow incorporating the image into my project). What I want to look at is how people look at themselves and also the way that media has shaped peoples views on beauty. I think looking back at nudes will help show how drastic the change has been on the viewing of the human body. I think that these images will convey an underlying meaning and not just be pretty images. I want them to make people think about how our society today has conveyed the human body. I always find that people are obsessed with looking a certain way or weighing a certain amount of weight. I find myself always thinking about my body so I think photographing the body will help me understand why we are always thinking in this way.
Over the summer I worked in a gym and everyday I would see different types of people walking in and out. They would watch themselves lift in front of a mirror. I guess I got an idea about this then over the summer watching people always being obsessed with what they put into their body and how much time they worked out for. I think doing a body of work like this will bring me out of my comfort zone and push me to think about the meanings of images even though a meaning may not be written out in front of my eyes. Before this class I would just look at images because they were pretty and not really come up with any meaning but because I am now the one trying to convey an underlying meaning it will be easier for me now to look for meanings in images.
